Amsterdam Says Farewell To DJ Dimitri

Dance music is a relatively new phenomenon, but some DJ's have been around from the start. One of them is dutch DJ-Dimitri, and he has just announced his 'retreat' from the scene. Rather than a job in A&R, or within a club, he opts for a more 'immaterial' career route, as he is currently working on an organic farm, aiding a group of disabled children.

After a whopping 23 years behind the decks, Dimitri, real name Dimitri Kneppers, is the first dutch Superstar-DJ to call it quits. The man behind the legendary Roxy nights in Amsterdam, but also with a former residency at the now closed Twilo nightclub in New York, long before the likes of Sasha and Digweed came to the stage, has announced that 'enough is enough'. Earth Paradiso Trilogy Part 2 [event]

After a first edition featuring Jimmy van M, and Audiofly, Amsterdam based promoter Earth is set to cause mayhem on Paradiso's dance-floors again, with another double headliner combo slated for 8th September.

This time, Balance's Chris Fortier from the US and Paolo Mojo have been invited to shake the foundation of the prominent Amsterdam Nightclub that is housed in a former church. Chris Fortier, no stranger to the organization joins Earth for the sixth time, as part of his 'As long as the moment exists' Album tour, rendering him almost a resident. Paolo Mojo, who received plaudits for his Balance mixing comp, is working on new material for British super-label Renaissance, but nevertheless took the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon as well. They will be joined by Mr Earth himself, DJ Per and resident vocalist P-Pholl, who will hype up the audience with his dance-hall styled vocal trickery. Read on >>>

Yves Larock - Rise Up [videoclip]

Yves Larock, a.k.a. Yves Cheminade to give his real name, is entirely self-taught and owes much of his success to one of the most popular club hits of 2005: Zookey.
Signed up by the Africanism and Defected labels, this track launched a brilliant new mix of zouk, reggae and house onto the house music scene.

At the beginning of 2007, he signed the new summer hit “Rise up” with Ministry of Sound, Universal. On “Rise up”, Yves has yet again expertly blended uplifting house and a reggae vocal, this time courtesy of Jaba, leader of the band “Moonraisers”.

DJ Mag Top 100 2007 Voting Open!

It's that time of the year when DJ marketing campaigns hit full swing. DJ Magazine's annual Top 100 DJs Poll has begun. Will Paul Van Dyk's two year run as the #1 DJ come to an end? Will trance no longer be as dominant a genre as it has in years past?

From now until September 25th the public will be able to cast their vote. Voters will need to rank 5 DJ's who have impressed them the most over this past year. There is some thought needed when voting as The Top 100 incorporates a points system. The DJ you place in the no.1 position gains five points, no.2, four points, etc., so choose wisely. Read on >>>

What it is: This Is Sander Kleinenberg, the Amsterdam DJ's latest dual-disc mixed compilation, gets released on the conspicuous date of Sept. 11 via Ultra. (The "This Is" portion of the title, by the way, is indicated as a trademark, so don't bite). The spinner says the project was "like a puzzle. You have 28 pieces, and somehow, you are going to make it all work together."
