Trentemøller Launches Fashion Collection [news]

Jes - Heaven [videoclip]

The dreamy singer recently released the video of her single "Heaven" on Black Hole Recordings. The video is shot solely on her at the city outskirts. Above & Beyond - Anjunabeach Tour [news]

To celebrate the 100th release on their label Anjunabeats, Above & Beyond are holding a series of 'Anjunabeach' parties across the globe over the next year, in honour of the legendary beach in Goa, India – the birthplace of modern rave culture and the inspiration for the label’s name.
The tour starts in Goa itself on 28 December 2007. The launch will be one of the biggest dance parties India has ever seen, attended by 20,000 people, and will be televised and co-promoted by MTV India. Above & Beyond will headline the Anjunabeach stage and play an epic 4 hour set, as well as hosting some of the hottest talents from the acclaimed Anjunabeats label, including Finland’s Super8 & DJ Tab, Dutch tech genius Stephen J. Kroos and Australia’s rising star Jaytech. In addition to being featured on MTV, the event will be broadcast on radio stations worldwide, via Above & Beyond’s syndicated ‘Trance Around The World’ radio show.

After kicking off the tour in Goa, the Anjunabeach tour touches down next on Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, on New Year’s Eve. Around one million people are expected to attend the free event, which will be broadcast live on Brazilian National TV and will be one of the world’s biggest ever parties.

Further Anjunabeach dates are being planned in Australia, Asia and back home in Europe, as well as Cancun, Mexico in March. Full details of these events will be published shortly.

As part of the 100th release celebrations, Above & Beyond will be running a competition to win a trip to the launch party in Goa.

Four People Shot Dead During Carl Cox DJ Set [news]

Four people were shot dead and nine injured by a gunman during a Carl Cox DJ set in Caracas, Venezuela on Saturday (November 3).

Cox was headlining the Red Noise event at the La Rinconada Terrace venue when, ten minutes into his set, a gunman opened fire in the audience.

Police are yet to release details of the shooting, but the incident is thought to be gang-related. Video footage of the shooting has begun circulating the internet.

Cox released a statement, which reads: "I am deeply shocked and still stunned by the events of this Saturday. My condolences go out to victims that were caught up in this horrific act. I am informed that it was gang-related, and feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner when the event was full of 7000 people having fun."

In October 1997, Lange signed his first ever record deal with Positiva records. Now a decade on, 2007 sees the leading trance producer finally release his highly anticipated debut album ... “Better Late Than Never”.

The perhaps appropriately named album draws on influences from across the electronic music spectrum including more traditional trance productions such as his last hit single ‘Angel Falls’ and the emotive ‘Red October’, but it also shows Lange’s broader production skills; taking in influences from techno and electro on ‘Dial Me Up’, ‘Wind Farm’, and the stunning new vocal single ‘Songless’, and even indie rock on the brilliant ‘Out of the sky’.

Christopher Lawrence Cleared By DJ Magazine In Top 100 Poll [news]

Christopher Lawrence and his team are pleased to announce that
Christopher has been cleared of any wrongdoing in relation to the Top100 poll.

Following the discovery of voting anomalies in this years poll, DJ Mag conducted an in depth investigation, which ultimately cleared Christopher of any involvement. Publisher James Robertson says "DJ Mag has been in lengthy discussions with Christopher Lawrence following our discovery of voting irregularities" he stated. "We fully accept his explanation that he, personally, had no involvement in any cheating".

In an interview with Skrufff, Christopher Lawrence explained "Apparently there were multiple votes from single IP addresses. DJ Mag felt it was suspicious and contacted my team to see if we knew anything about it," he continued, "We didn't, so we arranged for the marketing manager who was handling my Top 100 campaign to speak to them. He explained that he promotes the vote to street teams of 100,000- 150,000 people, mainly students". [Full Story]

1. The date is not in November like the previous editions, but in April: April 19 2008.

3. The organization of the 2005 & 2006 were done by UDC (Dance Valley organization), the 2008 will be organized by ID&T, so you can expect a lot more show, better sound, etc.

Dancefloor Sessions - Mixed By Blake Jarrell [news]

Aged just 23, Blake Jarrell has had a rollercoaster of a ride to date. Tipped by John Digweed as “definitely someone to look out for in the future," Blake carved himself a niche in the underground dance music scene in his hometown of New Orleans. At 16, he started to DJ and became a resident at local clubs like Ampersand, 735, and the House of Blues where he crafted his progressive house sound. Not satisfied with only DJing, Blake soon began to produce, releasing singles and remixes on various progressive labels co-produced with the late Adam "Starkid" Spears.


But in August 2005, disaster struck – Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on New Orleans, turning Blake’s life upside down. Packing his car with whatever he could, Blake wound up in Chicago where he fell in love with the booming house, techno and trance scene, which further helped shape his sound. It also brought a chance meeting with Armin van Buuren, who Blake passed along a CD of his productions. "It's bittersweet that I had to lose my hometown to Hurricane Katrina to find such a musically nurturing city as Chicago," says Blake who claims the storm as "simultaneously the best and worst thing that has ever happened to me." Third UK Top 10 Hit Fedde Le Grand Within A Year [news]

Dutchman Fedde le Grand has achieved the feat of having three UK top 10 hits within 12 months. His remix van Ida Corr's Let Me Think About It crashed into the The Official UK Singles Chart at second spot last week. The track follows other top 10 efforts Put Your Hands Up For Detroit and The Creeps (all on Ministry of Sound's Data Recordings). This is the first time a Dutch producer has had such unprecedented success in such a short time frame, exceeding even 2Unlimited's efforts in the early 90s.

His breakthrough as a performing artist was made clear to the dance world as he won the DJ Awards Ibiza Breakthrough award, presented to him in at Pacha. Also last Sunday (7th October) he performed during the closing party in Space alongside the likes of Danny Tenaglia and Pete Tong.

This year's up and coming Amsterdam Dance Event starts on next week. Fedde plays the MN2S party on the 19 October, the Melkweg on the following night and Saturday 20 October at Sneakerz in Panama. He may as well camp down sleep at the venue, because he is back there on the following night, 21 October, for the Super Sunday ADE Closing Party. (VIA)

Piracy Almost Ruins Chicane [news]

Having a number 1 hit in the U.K. and worldwide success with other songs, you’d figure that Chicane would be happy. But an album leaked to the internet nearly ruined the up and coming act.

Nick Bracegirdle, who is Chicane, was finishing up his third album, Easy To Assemble. The album was leaked on line, and one Russian counterfitter sold thousands of illegal copies by himself. He is now self-financing his next album, taking a big chance. "I've invested close to $400,000 so far, raised by selling my Ferrari and remortgaging the house," Bracegirdle says. "I've always played live with a sizable group of musicians, but now I'm financing everything myself. It is a challenge. The group and crew cost $8,000 per show."

The irony is that a market that is becoming strong for him is the one that caused him the trouble in the first place. "Ironically, Russia is fast becoming a good market for Chicane”, he said with a laugh. “We've been there more than four times already this year."

Amsterdam Says Farewell To DJ Dimitri

Dance music is a relatively new phenomenon, but some DJ's have been around from the start. One of them is dutch DJ-Dimitri, and he has just announced his 'retreat' from the scene. Rather than a job in A&R, or within a club, he opts for a more 'immaterial' career route, as he is currently working on an organic farm, aiding a group of disabled children.

After a whopping 23 years behind the decks, Dimitri, real name Dimitri Kneppers, is the first dutch Superstar-DJ to call it quits. The man behind the legendary Roxy nights in Amsterdam, but also with a former residency at the now closed Twilo nightclub in New York, long before the likes of Sasha and Digweed came to the stage, has announced that 'enough is enough'. DJ ! Using Nintendo Wiimotes

A mashup DJ that goes by the name DJ ! (pronounced DJ Shift-1) has invented a new way to perform using wireless videogame controllers and a PC. By hacking into two Nintendo Wiimotes – a controller from Nintendo's new videogame system, the Wii – he is able to map controls on a PC DJing program that would allow him to DJ using the Wiimotes. He's calling the technological mashup "WiiJing" and says it will change the way DJing is performed in the future. [Full Story]

Resident Advisor reports:A million ravers are expected to flood the streets of Zürich for this year's Street Parade. But there's plenty of action to be had away from the crowds too.

Modelled on the Berlin Love Parade, the Zürich Street Parade has been happening every August since 1992. Underworld To Headline Electronic Beats Festivals [news]

T-Mobile announces the line-ups and cities of the next series of Electronic Beats Festivals throughout Europe including Underworld on the heels of their first album release in five years.

The 2007 Electronic Beats Festival series kicked-off in Budapest in early June to the beats of Felix da Housecat, headlining artist Kelis and local band Neo. A highlight of the Electronic Beats program, the Electronic Beats Festivals are live music events featuring three to four artists with DJ sets in-between for a full night of music that evolves into a party atmosphere. 'No show' DJ Fans Seek Refund [news]

Fans reportedly rioted in Bahrain in after Tiesto was a no-show for a party there. In a statement on his site, the trance DJ blames a promoter who he claims fled without paying him and was caught at the Saudi Arabian border and subsequently jailed. The Dutchman says he wanted to play regardless. The party, according to one report, appeared to be disorganized on more than one level. "I am very sorry for what happened and I will definitely try to find a way to make it up with all my fans who bought tickets for the show," Tiesto stated.

Gatecrasher One Destroyed By Fire [news]

One of the most popular club in the UK, The Gatecrasher One in Sheffield, is destroyed by fire.
On june 18th at 5pm, a passerby dialled 999 when he noticed black smoke pouring out of Gatecrasher One in Sheffield. By 7pm, police were evacuating neighbouring offices and a nearby student hall of residence; at 7.20pm, part of Gatecrasher One (formerly The Republic) collapsed. Happily, though, no-one is believed to have been injured in the blaze.

The cause of fire is unknown.

Fresh from taking the #4 position in DJ Magazine's highly coveted 'Top 100 poll in 2006, American superstar DJ Christopher Lawrence returns to Buenos Aires for the South American Music Conference.

At 23rd of May the new single "True Believer" entered the swedish single charts at no. 1!!! E-type himself says it will be a real party smasher.
He is also working with on a new full-length album but there is no info when it will be released yet.

Dj Sammy's new single and new compilation Balearic Masters vol 1 will be released in June.

Lazy Dee (Mr President) is in studio recording a new solo track and he is looking for a new vocalist.

Taleesa has a new song which was created in collaboration with a Swedish team. She is currently in studio recording the vocals.
Release should be this summer or more likely in September. Taleesa could also be thinking of stopping her singer carreer for producing.

Trance superstar Ferry Corsten is releasing the second DJ mix in his "Passport" series, this one called Passport United States of America. It's due June 19 on Ultra. Terrorists Threaten DJ Tiësto [news]

After pop star Shakira, who had dropped off her planned Beirut date for her "Oral Fixation" tour this summer, now Dutch trance DJ Tiësto could be another one to cancel his scheduled Beirut appearance.

According to the Lebanese website Ya Libnan rumors have emerged that Fatah al-Islam terrorist cell has directly threatened to kill Tiësto if he dares to show up for his planned July 2 concert performance in Beirut.

The site also reports that on October 1, 2005, Tiesto broke records when over 16,000 people showed up to party with their beloved Tiësto at his long awaited debut in Beirut. The event, which took place at Forum de Beirut, has been coined the largest event ever in the Middle East.

As much as we are tempted to laugh about this, that's just horrible. Lebanese people just want to go out, have fun, dance and listen to music. What's wrong with that?

Paul Van Dyk, Pussycat Dolls Record Song

German DJ/producer Paul van Dyk is putting the finishing touches on his new studio album, "In Between," due Aug. 14 from Mute. Sources say the album may feature collaborations with Talking Heads' David Byrne and a member of the Pussycat Dolls on at least one track.

Van Dyk's last artist album, 2003's "Reflections," debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart. It spawned the club hits "Crush" and "Time of Our Lives." Van Dyk will be on tour throughout the summer, including an Aug. 17-18 stand in New York's Central Park.

Meanwhile, Billboard has learned that British duo Basement Jaxx recently spent a couple of weeks in New York, laying down tracks for a new album. Tracks laid down so far recall the pair's early Latin-flavored jams, and will feature guest appearances from Yoko Ono, Lil' Louis and Kudu, among others.


The as-yet-untitled new XL project is the follow-up to last year's "Crazy Itch Radio," which opened at No. 4 on Top Electronic Albums. Basement Jaxx has a handful of shows on tap for the summer, primarily at major European festivals.

A leading medical expert says it can cause heart and brain problems or lead to fits.

Benzyl piperazine was taken by an 18-year-old woman who collapsed in a London nightclub and suffered a seizure.

Armand Van Helden releases Ghettoblaster

Armand Van Helden releases his sixth artist album ‘Ghettoblaster’ in May.

“I don’t get a kick out of minimal techno. I don’t want my music to be intelligent,” says Van Helden, the New York house producer whose MySpace friends seem to be selected according to the shape of their derrieres. “I like making sex records.”

‘Ghettoblaster’ breaks with the electro-rock influences of his previous release ‘Nympho’ (2005), or as Van Helden explains: “I was going for a retro throwback 1985-89 soul uptempo urban type sound. Chicago meets Miami meets New York City kind of thing. Or to put it differently, house meets freestyle meets hip-house meets club meets new wave.” So now you know just where to find it in the store. This time around, guests include rappers Fat Joe and Will ‘Tha Wiz’ Lemay, Kudu, George Llanes, as well as vocalists Nicole Roux, Majida.

The first single from the album, “Touch Your Toes” featuring Fat Joe, is out now on vinyl and backed by remixes from Serge Santiago and The Audio, er, Bootys.

Party Ad On MySpace Ends In £20000 Repair For Home [news]

Some 200 teenagers, invited to a party by a girl at her family home through a notification on social networking site MySpace on Easter Monday, wrecked her home causing damages worth 20,000 pounds and inconveniencing neighbors.

The 17-year-old girl, a sixth former, had put up an advertisement on MySpace for her Skins-themed party, prompted by a British television serial on promiscuous teenagers into drugs and drinks, while her parents were away on a holiday. She had expected some 30 to 40 people, but 200 teens invaded the house at Woodstone Village, in Durham, northern England, some of them even from faraway places like London, equipped with cases and cases of drinks.

When her parents returned the next day, the whole house was in total disarray, with bucketfuls of vomit, empty liquor bottles and cigarette butts and extensive damages to furniture and fittings.
According to reports, worried neighbors had called the police as the drunken youths created havoc in the area through the Monday-Tuesday night. The Durham police are now investigating the entire incident.

The Oldest DJ Arrived At His 90th Anniversary [news]

The veteran Ron Diggins, the first DJ in the world, had his 90th anniversary last week. Boston based DJ is considered by many the first person who really start everything, Ananova informs.


Ron Diggins made the first DJ console in 1949, customized by his own craft. Ron is a professional radio engineer and created a buzz with his first sound system called “Diggola”: two decks, a sound mixer, lights, microphone, amplifier and 10 speakers.

Ron retired in 1995, when he had already played to 20.000 parties, comfortably making him the world's most experienced DJ. And what does the great man think of today's millionaire superstar DJs, who earn up to £20,000 for a single night's work? "I never knew how it would take off," he said, shaking his head. "The most I've ever charged is £50."

Luke Slater Lashes Jeans And T Shirt DJs

British techno type Luke Slater defended his decision to wear lipstick and eye shadow on his recent press shots for his Fabric compilation this week, telling Ibiza Voice his mates were fully supportive of his efforts.

"They can handle it because they know I'm a bit weird like that. And why shouldn't a man wear lipstick, anyway? What's wrong with that? I think there should be more lipstick in the world," he said.

The newly flamboyant performer said he's keen to bring more art and fashion into dance music and poked fun at his less image conscious peers.

"There's always this thing about underground techno, that the people who make it shouldn't be seen, it should be very underground – it should all be very jeans and T-shirts," he complained.

BT Begs Thieves - Phone Home

Brian BT Transeau was robbed of almost all his studio equipment last week, prompting the progressive trance pioneer to issue an unusual appeal on his myspace blog.

"I will pay anyone either US$20,000 or my equivalent time as a producer in exchange for the name and address of the perpetrators," BT promised.

"This information will be more helpful to me than just getting my gear back. Over 150,000 dollars of gear was stolen including my entire show for the Binary Universe."

In a lengthy statement, BT spoke of his interest in the 'human condition and the spiritual nature of all of the work that we as a community create', and swore vengeance is not on his agenda.

"I am not asking for this information for retaliation," he stressed, "I am asking for this information and implementing an unorthodox approach in the hopes of actually recovering my music."

The incident came six years after BT offered a "huge reward and no questions asked" when thieves broke into his LA studio while he was in London. The robbers got away with $100,000 dollars worth of synthesizers and hard drives containing un-backed up copies of much of his then 4th album, including collaborations with Peter Gabriel and Way Out West.

More recently, he appeared bitter when he made 82 in DJ Magazine's top 100 in 2005, ranting against Oakey ('Please God, let Paul Oakenfold get old and fat and DJ sitting down') and rival DJs for taking up Ableton.

"I have had the piss taken out of me for four years for using a laptop," BT complained, "And now I have the honour of my superstar DJ friends calling me for tech support- constantly. This interview sucks my balls," he raved.

The coming edition will therefore be a journey back in time to the early stages of Dance Valley’s history, as well as the beginning of the future. As the loyal Dance Valley festival-goers have come to expect since 1995, the program is as diverse and exciting as always, with more than 135 artists scheduled to perform. The festival will also be bigger than ever, with a handful of new areas bringing the total to fifteen. The biggest difference, however, is that Dance Valley 2007 now has a theme that will appeal to everyone: THE CIRCUS!

An act who rose to prominence and as quickly sank to fraudulence may soon come to the silver screen. Girl, you know it’s true that the story of Milli Vanilli apparently will be told.

The tale of Fabrice Morvan and the late Rob Pilatus, who died of a drug overdose, is being pushed by Jeff Nathanson, writer of Catch Me If You Can. He claims to be "fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you have guys who pulled off the ultimate con.” Milli Vanilli sold 30 million singles and won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1990, only to be found out as frauds after it was revealed that they didn’t sing on their own recordings.

Kelly Llorenna - I Will Love Again [videoclip]

Kelly Llorenna started her music career in 1992 as a member of the dance act N-Trance, lending her vocals to "Set You Free" which originally was not a success. Following several re-releases, the song stormed the UK charts in January 1995.

That same year, Kelly launched her solo career with the song "Brighter Day" which was just shy of reaching the UK top 40. Berlin Love Parade Dumps Berlin

Organisers of the Berlin Love Parade announced this week that they’re seeking a new location ‘in Germany or Europe’ to stage an event this summer and blasted local authorities for failing to grant them a permit.
“We have on several occasions attempted to get the City of Berlin to grant us written approval and repeatedly postponed the press conference for this reason. Sander Kleinenberg Quits His Millionaire Mansion [news]

Dutch website Poptical.nl reported that Sander Kleinenberg is selling his canalside Amsterdam home this week, and published a highly detailed article which poked fun at the superstar DJ's interior decoration tastes.

"From what I have seen of his house, apple green and dark grey are Sander's favourite colours. You will walk, eat and sleep in rooms that are a nicely balanced combination of light apple green and dark grey set off by a basis of stark white to enhance the contrast," the Dutch writer said.

"But why is Sander Kleinenberg leaving this amazing house? Is it because he is fed up with the green and grey thing?"

Vinyl Faces Its Final Curtain

Dance culture elder statesmen Paul Hartnoll from Orbital and S Express's Mark Moore predicted vinyl is set to become obsolete in the new issue of Mixmag this week, in a feature headlined Grumpy Old DJs.

"It's not got much of a f**king future has it, vinyl?" said Paul Hartnoll, "It'll die like the wax cylinder."

Acid house pioneer Fabio also described being shocked when he stumbled across two Technics turntables on a recent visit to London's Science Museum, in a display area celebrating classic technology.

"They had this archive section with a pair of SL1200s in the window," the drum & bass don declared, "and it (a placard that) said 'this is what DJs used in the 70s and 80s'."

Next generation DJ Paulo Mojo told Skrufff he last played an all-vinyl set in 2000 and his last ever record in a club at the end of 2004 and said, though he still buys vinyl regularly, he now always edits tracks with Ableton before burning them onto CD for spinning.

"I was travelling with Lee Burridge a couple of weeks ago, who still plays predominantly vinyl, and he said almost ruefully, he is waiting for the day he shows up at a club to find no Technics installed. And he believes it will be sooner rather than later." said Paulo. "Lee is an exception rather than a rule mind you. Danny Howells still carries a big box of records too."

"For me the flexibility of using Abelton and CDs far outweighs any nostalgia I might feel for a box of 12" records," he added.

Fatboy Plans Another Bash [news]

Brighton (UK) hero Fatboy Slim is planning another beach bash for the south coast city, but has ruled out hosting one again in winter because of the weather.

The superstar DJ played to 20,000 fans in torrential rain on Brighton’s seafront on New Year’s Eve, and got electrocuted 15 times by his decks.

Despite the horrendous weather, most of the reports of the event were positive.

His spokeswoman said Norm would “of course” stage another similar ticketed event for the city, but when it gets a bit warmer.

I Love Tiesto - US House Star Confesses

West Coast underground house icon Hipp-E chatted to Skrufff this week about his recent experience of warming up for Tiesto and revealed that he’d been fully won over by the Dutch superstar DJ’s dazzling display.

“Tiesto is a real presence, it’s like watching a rock show when you see him and I think that’s what the kids really enjoy,” he mused.

“Most of us DJs get so chilled and stay behind the decks, featuring the music whereas he is the main feature of the show, and the music is just this pounding soundtrack. To be honest I am impressed at the success of what he has done,” he added, “And you have to respect that.”

Hipp-E’s own performance also went down surprisingly well, he claimed, despite him playing a techno and minimal style set to the army of adoring trance fans.

“I later found out from the promoter that people were into my set, and there were some great moments, but it was a tough crowd to say the least,” he added, “But the crowd was there for Tiesto, and by the time my two hours were up, I was as well.”

The Denver raised nowadays San Francisco based DJ started his career in 1989, aged 16, teaming up with Halo soon after to become a DJ duo and production team (recording as H Foundation on Soma) splitting amicably more recently with Hipp-E retaining the name. He’s also now releasing under his own name for Slip N Slide (who release Sunshine in February) and continues to DJ prolifically in both Europe and the States, putting relentless effort into retaining his profile.

“Gig bookings will always go up and down though I think these days you definitely need to be doing more to stay on the circuit,” he said.

“I have a lot of friends sitting at home on a lot of Saturday nights who are good DJs so there is something to be said about what that means for the scene. But as with anything, you get out of it what you put into it, and I have always had great friendships with the people I work with. So even during slow times, I’ve got my tried and true people that I love to play for and work with,” he added.

“There is an advantage to be able to promote yourself via your productions. People tend to appreciate when a producer they like ends up being a decent DJ as well,” he laughed.

N-Trance news for last half-an-year:
We’ve been a bit busy this month putting the final touches to The Freeloaders debut album, but after that we’re going to finish of the previously uncompleted album The Mind Of The Machine. We’ll probably do a limited run of CD’s that you can buy either direct from our website or AATW’s, but will also be available as a download. It will only feature vocals by members of N-Trance between 1996-1998. After this has been done we’re starting a new N-Trance album from scratch, and the old songs that we released that weren’t on any previous albums won’t be included. I’ve no idea how long this album will take to make, but I’m going to write it all in one go and then pick the tracks to release as singles when it’s finished. I have a feeling the album will be a bit darker than usual, and I’m tempted to go back to my roots and do a big beat piano style album.
For any of you that still didn’t know... N-Trance also produce under the pseudonym Freeloaders, and their debut album Freshly Squeezed is now available to download exclusively on iTunes. We will also be finishing off the previously unreleased album Mind Of The Machine, and will be releasing this as well exclusively as a download later this year.

Superstar DJs facing extinction?

US journalist Jean Carey labelled Paul van Dyk, Fatboy Slim, Tiesto and Paul Oakenfold a "cold-blooded cadre of dinosaur DJs" this week and suggested they face a "looming extinction".

"Suddenly, in 2006, like dinosaurs shuddering in the freezing contrail of passing comet, the time of the superstar DJs ended," she wrote in a widely syndicated article headlined "2006 — the Year the Superstar DJ Died".

"Today, the big boys are gasping for space as overpaid nightclub hosts, while small, furry mammals named Busdriver, Ellen Alien, and Otto Von Schirach have sprung forth to occupy their musical niche in the ecosystem".

The influential writer also listed Judge Jules in her list of under-threat DJs though Jules himself was supremely indifferent.

"There’s not really anything I can say in general on this one, except that some DJs have remained relevant, others haven’t," he mused.

"It’s a bit like the music scene," Jules added. "Some bands disappear without trace once their heyday is over, whilst others travel on a path of continual reinvention. DJs are no different," he told Skrufff.

Pacha global brand director Danny Whittle was less sympathetic, however, telling Skrufff: "I think that’s bulls**t, to be honest, it’s like when the press say Ibiza is finished or dance music is dead".

"The DJs, like the press, don’t really control their own careers, the punters do and as long as there are punters supporting them, they will get work," Danny pointed out.

"This is just another example of the press trying to be predictive and getting it totally wrong. The reality is that there will always be superstar DJs who fill clubs and because of that get big fees. The names may change but they will still be there," he added.
