Young live-act/producer Applescal has won the Best Dance Producer award at this year's Grote Prijs Van Nederland contest. After the finale (described by the judges as 'pure live action sex'), Pascal took off with a batch of prizes plus the well earned title.
This year's edition saw various well talented producers competing, including much respected acts such as Space Pirates, Koen Lebens & Fokko Versloot and Tom Trago. After impressing the likes of Laurent Garnier Roger Sanchez with his melodic house and acid-esque electronics, Applescal blew the judges away resulting in a glorious victory. In February next year Above & Beyond will release a two disc Anjunadeep compilation featuring some of the biggest artists from their increasingly popular and critically acclaimed progressive house and trance sub-label.
Above & Beyond are most well known for their role in defining the uplifting trance sound yet trance is just a part of what they do. There's no clearer example of this than Anjunadeep, the trio's melodic and progressive house offshoot that’s grown from being a mere sibling label to a popular and influential imprint in its own right, winning fans such as James Zabiela, Desyn Masiello, Eric Prydz, and Laurent Garnier along the way, and receiving a nomination for Best Record Label at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards 2008.
It's a progression which brings us to 'Above & Beyond: Anjunadeep 01', the label's debut compilation. Anjunadeep stalwarts Jaytech, Michael Cassette (aka Komytea), Interplay, Joonas Hahmo and recent high profile addition 16 Bit Lolitas, are joined by newer faces like Colombia's Liluca, Russia's Proff and Canadian Paul Keeley over two discs of cutting-edge melodic house and trance. Whether it’s the falling leaves, the first signs of Christmas or the long and dark nights, Simon Patterson’s feelings are definitely playing tricks on him.
Fortunately, Simon has put these feelings to very good use by producing a track that might have cut down on BPM, but surely not on quality.
After finishing his latest track he was surprised by the remarkably good result and decided to call it ‘Different Feeling’. Sander van Doorn’s Doorn Records was just as pleasantly surprised and offered to release it with a superb remix that only Belgium’s own Filterheadz can come up with.

A new website with the terrible name of Bopaboo is going out on a limb with its new idea. Basically, they are offering users the chance to sell second-hand MP3s.
"Stop illegally sharing and start legally selling!" says the website. "Buy DRM-free mp3's starting @ $0.25." The ideas is you upload MP3s you don't want anymore, and sell them on to people who do want the. Er, but the only thing is, you still get to keep the file - unlike when you sell a second-hand CD, for example.
Bopaboo presumes that any song uploaded to the site is legally obtained, and they plan to make users sign a contract saying so. But the problem faced by CD shops reselling used CDs which may have been obtained illegally is increased exponentially here - there's nothing stopping users uploading and selling thousands of tracks that they have already illegally downloaded and not paid for in the first place. Which is kind of ridiculous.
Sounds pretty shady to us - can't see it having much of a future to be honest...

FINALLY! :)
After a long process of making the right mixes for the first house release of Phonk d'or (the house alias of Nenes), time has arrived that in a few days, 'F*ck Me Up, will be finally released!
We are very satisfied with the result of the 4 mixes, which are all very different.
The 'Original Mix' has a juicy deep bassline with grooving beats (already featured on the Sensation White Compilation cd, the Pacha Summer Anthems cd and the Extrema Outdoor cd), the 'Phonk's Re-Work' and 'Re-Dub' have a bit of tech house influences, combined with pumping beats and the 'Phonk's Raw Electro Mix' has some tech trance influences, combined with dirty beats and was already featured on a mix compilation on the Armada label, mixed by Arnej!
On Monday, 8th of December, 'F*ck Me Up' will be released exclusively on www.dance-tunes.com
A week later, on Monday, 17th of December, 'F*ck Me Up', will be released on all other download portals like Beatport.com
The new myspace site for both Nenes and Phonk d'or will soon be launched aswell, so keep checking the profile!:) More info about his house alias, Phonk d'or, can be found at www.myspace.com/phonkdor

Deadmau5 is threatening legal action against one Jesse Sinopoli, aka Dirty Circuit - a small-time producer from Louisian.
The producer has used the main riff from Deadmau5's Faxing Berlin on his imaginatively titlted track Berlin, which is available to buy on iTunes an Amazon. Sinopoli says he thought the loop was royalty-free, after finding it in his copy of Image Line's FL Studio 8 - meaning that he thought he could use it in his own production without any problems.
“Why are these available as loops and why aren’t they credited or noted as this [copyrighted],” wrote Sinopoli on Image Line’s online forum. “I would not have used it had I known it was his.” [Full Story]

Applying old copyright law in the digital world is like forcing people to put a stamp on every email they send.
But whilst the rest of the world has slowly woken up to the fact that old business models don’t apply in the digital age, copyright societies, particularly ones that represent the ‘interests’ of musicians and composers still linger in the stone age.
And to prove just how out-of-touch copyright societies are in a world moving at light speed, a German composer has submitted 70,200 forms to GEMA - Germany’s version of the RIAA - for a 33 second avant garde piece that contains 70,200 samples.
The reason? GEMA requires you to fill in a form for every sample you use in a musical piece no matter how minute.
Johannes Kreidler arrived at the headquarters of GEMA in a van full of paper. Awesome. [Full Story]

Deadmau5 has defended comments he made in an interview with the Irish Daily Star newspaper last month, saying that they have been taken out of context.
The acclaimed producer said in the interview: "DJs are f***ing c**ts. I don't really see the technical merit in playing two songs at the same speed together. They are my number one customer, right, so I'm not gonna go diss every f***ing DJ. But to say you become this massive... performer by playing other people's productions at the same speed as someone else's productions and fading between the two of them, I don't get it".
In a post on his blog this week, he responded to a torrent of criticism of this outburst in various corners of the internet.
He wrote: "I could only have imagined people would read into it so much and miss the point completely... My perception of DJ's in general from this standpoint has always been being forced into some nightclub when I would have rather stayed home, and watch some dude mash the 'play / stop' button and occasionally move a pitch slider... Mind you, I'm not a total f***ing idiot, and I recognise talent when I see it and there are many talented DJs out there for sure... Okay, to say 'all DJs are...' etc etc, to be taken literally, as this article did, was just painfully stupid and wrong on their behalf. So, I'm not the world's most eloquent person, any idiot can tell you that. But the meaning behind the statement was the concept that I recognise as being a 'disc jockey'".
Of course, how could we possibly have misinterpreted that comment? Ha ha...

This month sees German DJ/producer Monika Kruse host two anti-racism parties in Germany to raise money for the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, an organisation that seeks to combat right wing extremist youth in East Germany. The group developed as a reaction to a growing number of Neo-Nazis and other right wing organisations who are distributing racist and anti-Semitic propaganda in East Germany - and with worryingly large anti-Semitic and extreme right wing movements in Hungary, Austria, Holland and Italy to name but a few, it's something that should certainly be extened throughout Europe.
The parties are run under the No Historical Backspin name, with Monika Kruse joined by Pascal FEOS at Mau Club in Rostock on November 27th and with Mobilee man Ralf Kollmann at E-Werk club in Erlangen on November 29th.
Since 2000, Kruse has helped to raise over €60,000 for the foundation with help from the likes of Paul Van Dyk, André Galluzzi, Anja Schneider, Kiki and Tom Clark.

No other concept in dance history has been as durable as DJ Jean presents Madhouse.
DJ Jean was already one of the most versatile hip-hop DJs in the Netherlands when he caught the new house virus in the late 1980s. Manfred Langer had just opened the legendary iT in Amsterdam, and asked Jean to take over the Friday night show in this club. Madhouse was born and quickly grew to become the hottest club night in the Netherlands, if not the world. DJ Jean’s faultless choice of tracks and his perfect feel for the public have brought many dance floors to a state of ecstasy. The series of iT CDs that Jean and his fellow resident Marcello have released was not only the best-selling CD series of the 1990s, but also brought about the definitive breakthrough for house music in the Netherlands. Your chance to star in the next official OceanLab Music Video with Above & Beyond!
In February 2009 OceanLab will be releasing their next single 'On A Good Day' taken from their 'Sirens Of The Sea' album, and we’re launching a competition giving you the chance to contribute to the official music video.

Budding film producers can submit a full video, or you can just send in clips that represent your interpretation. Get creative, the more interesting and unique the clips the more likely you are to get in the video. Think footage of you and your mates, singalongs, puppets, animation - the only limit is your creativity! Stills and mobile phone footage will be accepted but the higher the resolution, the greater your chances of inclusion.
We will also be filming at Above & Beyond gigs over the next few weeks so keep an eye out for our roving camera team! [Full Story]

Crisis? What crisis? In the parallel universe where electronic beats rule all, we are more prosperous than ever. That is to say, if you take this year's ADE as the yardstick. The thirteenth edition turned out to be the most successful one to date. And almost every delegate seems to be very excited about facing the challenges that the music industry currently is up against. Music is, or will at least provide the answer, that is an unshakable truth we all firmly believe in.
In 2007 the organisation was forced to move part of the conference program to the beautiful neighbouring Dylan Hotel due to mildew in some of the Felix Meritis rooms. One year later, the Dylan was used for the second time, now because the ADE has grown again and needed more room for panel discussions and for delegates to do their business. [Full Story]

On Saturday November 8th 2008, Menno de Jong presents his first solo performance. The sound of Menno will fill the “Westerunie” in Amsterdam the whole night. With his first solo performance Menno takes control of the dj booth with an exclusively long DJ set…
Even when Menno was at a very young age he was already extremely into music. At a very young age he was already practicing with his turntables for hours and hours. All this practicing has led to where he stands today. He started in local clubs, but nowadays he travels to all kinds of places around the globe and even spins his records at the greatest festivals in the world such as Mysteryland. Tracks of Menno are frequently played on Armin van Buurens successful radio show called ‘A State Of Trance’.
His own company, Intuition Recordings, has contributed to the fact that Menno can see himself as a young and respected producer, dj and businessman. The events division of the company, Intuition Events, has organized the Intuition Summer-and Winter Festivals four times already. These parties were a stunning success. Intuition is also known for another popular concept, called Intuition Invites. For this concept, internationally known DJ’s are invited to join Menno de Jong to fill the night with trance and progressive tunes. The last edition of Intuition Invites with Special Guests: Above & Beyond was as a night to remember! [Full Story]

Umek returns with the second release on his newly formed Sixteenofive imprint. The debut release saw VoRr deliver a devilishly driving EP 'Outlaws'.
They don't come much noisier, nastier or more in your face than Gatex, and it was this, matched with the fact that it is a true masterpiece, that saw the track gain massive support right across the board with techno and trance DJ's all throwing it down in their sets. The track is also beatless, which made it the ultimate tool for the discerning DJ.
Originally released on Magik Muzik, it is now back where it belongs, with Umek. The original mix package was a trance DJ's delight, with mixes from Tiesto, Oliver Lieb and DJ Montana but to celebrate the return, Umek has taken a different route and drafted in a remixer who is in a terrifically rich vein of form right now. With his own Excentric Muzik going from strength to strength and with new releases and remixes such as 'Ireland' on Great Stuff and 'Hinode' & 'Dirty' for King Unique, Fergie's star really is shining brightly right now. Here he gets to grips with Gatex, and treats it with the utmost of respect. Adding his now trademark rolling basslines, and teasing the original melody throughout, he delivers a real modern take on this classic.
Release date: 29.09.08
Tracklist:
A - Gatex (Fergie Remix)
B - Gatex (Original Mix)

“The Big Love philosophy is to embrace everything, all cultures, all creeds, all sexes, all races. Black, white, straight or gay, it’s all encompassing. Its the same for our music we love House music in all its wonderful shapes & forms” Seamus Haji.
Seamus Haji is a lucky guy. With over 20 years experience in the business he looks great, he has his own record label, enjoys being able to travel around the world doing international DJ dates. He is also the guy credited for pioneering the now universally acknowledged ‘electro house’ sound with ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’, as sound that totally rejuvenated house. It was also Seamus who was behind the chart success of Booty Luv, remixing their unforgettable pop smash ‘Boogie Tonight’ a track so big that that no one in dance music could hide from it! Here Seamus gives his personal insight into the world of Dance music.
How long have you been in the business for?
Well over 20 years now, I started off when I was 16 DJing at illegal warehouse parties and house parties.
I’ve been making a living from being a DJ over the last 10 years, and in the last 5 years I’ve been more professional in the studio.
You’ve always done very well as a DJ. You managed to get your profile around and played at some of the key places across the UK and Internationally. Even before ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.’
I was lucky enough to play at clubs like Back to Basics and Hard Times, back in the days when you actually had super clubs; I’m going back 12-14 years ago. The club scene in the UK was really strong back then.
A few years after that I ended up working at Slip and Slide and then working at Defected which really helped raise my profile. [Full Story]

Youth and experience is often a winning combination and that’s exactly what you get with ‘Touch Me’. On the one side take newcomers Bingo Players (Maarten Hoogstraten and Paul Bäumer), fresh from recent success with their first productions ‘Gimme All That You Got’ and ‘Shake It’ and a remix of Tony Flexx’ ‘Our House’; on the other, the godfathers of the Dutch house scene, Rene Ter Horst and Gaston Steenkist, a pair of producers who’ve notched up a stunning succession of hits since the ‘90s as the Good Men (‘Give It Up’) Zki & Dobre, Fresh Fruit (also the name of their now defunct label) Rene & Gaston, Jark Prongo and, of course, Chocolate Puma (‘I Wanna Be You’). The resulting electro-tinged banger comes in three energetic original mixes and a brace from a red-hot Bart B, who toughens it up with his Bart B More remix and gets retro with his Vintage mix.

Do you remember the track “Hugs’n’Kisses”? It was one of the biggest club hits in 2006, played by nearly everyone from Erick Morillo to Roger Sanchez, from Dubfire to Carl Cox and from Tiesto to Armin van Buuren. This was the breakthrough record for Criss Source. But it was not the first record of the German producer: He was also one part of “Motorcraft”, a very successful act back in the days – they even had a Tiesto Remix for one of their tracks!
His new massive tune on Supra Recordings is called “Fortuna” and it caused quite a stir after it was sent to only a few VIP DJs. The package contains brilliant remixes from Jay Lumen and Memento. Jay Lumen is one of the biggest shooting stars of the Progressive scene of 2008. He released several awesome tracks and remixes on Anjunadeep and Baroque Records. His remix of “Fortuna” is definitely a masterpiece! And Memento is another biggie of the Underground House scene: After his fantastic releases on Global Underground and Slip'n'Slide, he came along with remixes for Bush II Bush on Cr2 Records and for Luetzenkirchen. He delivered a peaktime remix right in time for the last months of summer – we love those strings!

The guys at Anjunabeats have had a specially commissioned game made to coincide with Oceanlab’s release of ‘Sirens Of The Sea’. Apart from being something to keep you entertained during your lunch break at your desk (or to distract you for a ridiculous amount of time from something you should be doing but keep putting off) the game is open to all to test their geographical knowledge of the cities and countries that Oceanlab and Above and Beyond have DJ’ed in throughout their career so far.
One lucky person will also be able to witness the Above and Beyond guys do their thing at Cream, Amnesia in Ibiza on the 18th September with VIP entry to the club, accommodation and flights all sorted courtesy of the Anjunabeats team. All you have to do is get enough points to appear in the top 10 on the leaderboard at the time of the draw and it might be you!

Intuition Invites is back! Earlier this year Markus Schulz was the guest of honour, this time Above & Beyond will be flying in from the UK to treat The Netherlands to a spectacular performance. On Saturday the 20th of September ‘Above & Beyond’ will be gracing the decks at Intuition Invites in ‘The Sand’ in Amsterdam.
The trio Above & Beyond was founded in 2000. Producer Tony McGuinness joined Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamäki, founders of the legendary label Anjunabeats, and the faces behind projects such as Oceanlab, Tranquility Base and POS. After remixes for renowned artists such as Britney Spears and Madonna they released their debut album ‘Tri-State’ in 2006. The album rocked the electronic music scene and was praised by the mighty UK based DJ Magazine. Their various accomplishments resulted in a 6th position in the DJ Mag Top 100 of 2007. The icing on the cake though came during 2008’s Winter Music Conference, during which they were awarded ‘Best Underground Dance Track’ for ‘Home’ during the IDMA (International Dance Music Awards). After a 2-year absence from The Netherlands they now return exclusively for Intuition, who will turn The Sand into a spectacular electronic music event on the 20th of September 2008.
A&B: ”It’s been a while, but visiting Holland is great, especially for Intuition. We love the Dutch audience and together with Menno it is going to be a perfect party….” [Full Story]

Tiësto added another first timer to his career. Last Friday, Tiësto wrote history in the UK by being the first ever DJ to perform within the unique complex of the famous 02 Arena in London as part of his In Search of Sunrise 7 summer tour.
The sold out O2 Arena, with its capacity of 20.000 people one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe, hosted an enthusiastic crowd that saw the true nature of a 5 hour live set in the style of Tiësto and experienced a full-on production with a 200.000 watts sound system, supported by a huge 200 m2 LED wall, over 300.000 watts of state of the art lighting and the latest new design in video-effects.
Earlier that day, Tiësto performed an in-store at Armani Exchange on Regent Street in central London.
The experiences of Tiësto's visit to London and his performance at the O2 Arena are captured in a short video that is now available online.

At last, Leon Bolier’s debut artist album will be released. From September 29th on, this double CD ‘Pictures’ will be available in stores, and of course music lovers and critics are looking forward to the first artist album by the talented and versatile Leon Bolier. CD1 will mostly consist of fresh new solo productions, while CD2 will be filled with collabs with Sied van Riel, Galen Behr, Joop, Global Illumination, Cliff Coenraad, Jonas Steur and Daniel Wanrooy, accompanied by new and older solo productions. Of course one can expect the diversity that’s needed: from sweet moody trance to dance floor pounders and minimalistic work. The album is typical for the sound Leon Bolier stands for, difficult to be pigeonholed and surprising again and again.
To celebrate this, Leon will kick off an album world tour on Friday the 26th of September in Club Poema, Utrecht (the Netherlands). From 11 pm on the party will explode and for this special occasion Leon Bolier invited some artist-friends to pump up the party even more! At this release-event the artist album will be available before the official release date, for the early birds. Club Poema is known as an intimate location, and Solarize Agency will host the event. Jochen Miller has been sending out some high quality releases over the past few years and now he returns on High Contrast with "Lost Connection", his 3rd #2 on Beatport for this year.
This is definitly one of his strongest tracks yet. The main riff makes this stand out from the rest, huge and full of energy, when combined with Millers production skills makes this a club banger. On the flip Artento Divini turns in a mix which is more laid back and minimal but still contains all the elements which makes the original so great.
Just back from his collaboration with the outstanding Rank 1, mr Miller's love for music spreads it's boundries across the globe, "Lost Connection" promisses to be huge and allready earned it's credits, #2 on Beatport's Trance chart and #3 on Tiesto's beatport summer chart!
His star is rising and his passion for airmiles is getting bigger and bigger. After his huge perfomance at "Matrixx @ the park" and "Pleasure Island" he's now aiming his target at one of the biggest festivals in Holland, "Mysteryland". DJmag reports: Dutch electro don Fedde Le Grand was forced off stage by a crowd surge at this summer's Roskilde Festival.
The dance arena of the Danish festival was closed following an unprecedented influx of fans. Security closed the arena after Le Grand had played just one record.
Roskilde officials were on high alert following a previous incident that cost the lives of two festival goers. In this instance organisers spotted the problem early and acted quickly in the interest of security.
Fedde described the scenes, in which amazingly no one was hurt, as "terrifying to watch".
Le Grand returned to the stage after a 45 minute break to resume his set under stricter security controls.

Blissy's back in town, with a new mix compilation that combines acid house and techno in her signature style - she's not just a member of Faithless, you know.
Faithless are a dance music supergroup; a festival act whose words mean something, one of the biggest acts in dance music worldwide and the authors of anthems like Insomnia and albums like Reverence. And they couldn't have done any of those things without Sister Bliss, one of the most visible women in dance music and the musical hub of the band's on-stage presence.
Still, Blissy (real name Ayalah Bentovim) isn't just a member of a band, she's also an old school DJ from the British club scene - a survivor of a time when female DJs were a novelty, not that she's ever let that stop her. Still a mainstay of The Gallery, Turnmills infamous Friday-nighter that now resides at Ministry Of Sound, Blissy's DJ skills are definitely worth hearing first hand…but if you can't make it, or want a memento of a good night, then this is probably a good choice. Ferry Corsten will close out his own Flashover Recordings Stage at the Dance Valley festival with none other than Tiësto. This historic event will take place in the Second Valley at Dance Valley.
San Francisco, 24 May 2008. Due to a serious power failure, the ETD POP Festival died a sudden death, just at the moment that the public had reached a state of ecstasy after an amazing set by Ferry Corsten and the first tracks of Tiësto’s final set had begun to boom through the venue. One club that still had power was the Ruby Skye, which was filled to capacity as Ferry Corsten turned the tables at the official ETD POP afterparty.
Tiësto, still full of energy after his incomplete set earlier that evening, decided to stop in on his good friend and colleague Ferry Corsten. Ferry immediately pulled him into the DJ booth to continue turning in a back-to-back set. The audience at Ruby Skye instantly felt that dance history was being written that night. Years after Ferry and Tiësto had entered the history books under names such as Gouryella, with tracks Gouryella, Walhalla and Tenshi, they were again turning tables together for a public that completely blew its top.
You can see the proof here and here.

The next release on Supra Recordings comes around the corner, it’s a new release from Algarve with two tracks on it called “Memory Wash” and “Allegory”. It includes two fantastic remixes from Thomas Penton & John C and Funabashi.
“Memory Wash” is a great combination of progressive house and trancy sounds. After you listened to this track once, you will never ever forget this outstanding synth line! The remix from Thomas Penton & John C is the right choice, if you prefer some more electronic sounds. This one rocks! On the other hand is the Funabashi Remix, with its brilliant nu-school trance sound. Huuuge! And “Allegory” is a track with a more striking bass and stuttering synth line - but definitely worth a try as well! Check it out!

The ex manager from Daft Punk, Busy P, revealed in a recent interview for the Australian webzine Inthemix, that Daft Punk are back in the studio and they prepare a new material int he forthcoming months.
“The boys are in a studio in Paris at the moment,” Ed Banger boss revealed to ITM. “And I can’t wait to listen to their new stuff! The good thing is that they are making music at the moment.” While those creative juices are flowing again, it’s not known at this stage when the new album might see the light of day. “They are slow, you know,” Busy P laughed when asked. “They are taking their time, and they have a right.”

As the world joins together for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games this summer, Coca-Cola has invited Tiësto to produce a track that properly expresses what the occasion means to him.
Tiësto had been provided with a theme and using his music as his form of expression, he created a song that expanded on his inspiration, drawn from the theme. The title of the track he created will be "Global Harmony".
The collaboration is based on the contribution of Chinese visual artist Xiao Xue who designed a new limited-edition Coca-Cola bottle. The graphic arts featured in the design, were then united with Tiësto's track, thus showing the basis of the concept: the possibilities that emerge when cultures of all parts of the world come together.
Both the artistic and cultural exchange of this first ever project resulted in a total of eight limited-edition aluminum contour bottles by the title "WE8", which refers to the collaboration between West and East around eight different themes.
The eight unique bottle designs, together with their respective music tracks are available for free download from the dedicated Coca-Cola homepage.

Dance Therapy is proud to present one of the most influential dance artists of the past decade, DJ/Producer Lange, as a new artist on its roster.
Lange first took the scene by storm 10 years ago with his now classic trance sound and has had countless underground and commercial hits including his UK Top 10 single, ‘Drifting Away’.
Since then, Lange has remained a pioneer of the dance music scene and his new album is testament to his passion for reinvention.
After last year’s club anthems, ‘Another You Another Me’ and 'Angel Falls', Lange was again back on form with his last release 'Songless', taken from his highly acclaimed album 'Better Late Than Never'. His new single ‘Out of The Sky’ featuring Sarah Howells is scheduled for release on Maelstrom records and looks set to become his next summer hit.
Rocking audiences of up to 25,000, Lange has appeared at major dance festivals such as Global Gathering, Summadayze, Creamfields and the Zurich Street Parade and performs for some of the biggest club brands in the world including Ministry Of Sound, Gatecrasher, and Godskitchen. He is currently ranked as no. 55 in the world renowned DJ MAG top 100 list and has been consistently voted in the top 150 every year for the past 6 years.
With a new radio show in the pipeline and plenty of releases still to come this year, Lange is an exciting addition to the Dance Therapy roster.

Grammy Award nominated and Grammy Award winner, Sharam, returns with his first new material since last year’s Top 10 anthem, ‘P.A.T.T’. The Iranian-born, US based dance artist has announced that his debut solo album, ‘Sidedish’, will be released later this summer.
The album will feature one of the Miami buzz records ‘Get Wild’ and ‘The One’ featuring Daniel Bedingfield. Yes, the Daniel Bedingfield, the UK artist behind seminal bedroom-produced UK Garage classic ‘Gotta Get Thru This’ and latterly slushy Mum-pleasing money-spinning ballads such as 'If You’re Not The One'.
He is joined by a list of guest artist that sounds more like a Celebrity Big Brother producer’s wet dream including hip-hop clown P Diddy, Public Enemy legend Chuck D, deep house hero Nic Fancuilli and Pam’s ex, rock nutter Tommy Lee. The album also includes songs with long time Deep Dish collaborators Anousheh Khalili and Morel. If mothing else this can only be entertaining!
The album release date will be announced in due course.
‘The One’ featuring Daniel Bedingfield is released on Data Records on 14th July.

On Saturday 2nd May m_nus star Magda became the most recent high-profile DJ to fall victim to a laptop thieves.
In the aftermath of her gig at the Centrum Club in Erfurt, Germany, her laptop bag was stolen from the club's DJ booth - and with it went her laptop itself, plus her hard drive and headphones too.
Unfortunately, DJs being robbed after they play (or in the case of Vitalic back in 2005 at London's Cargo, even before his performance) is not a new phenomenon.
To an opportunistic thief a laptop probably looks like a nice easy steal; they're clearly not the moral type, let's be honest. The amount of work that's on the laptop is probably immaterial to them, but this incident has clearly affected Magda a great deal.
In a message to m_nus mailout-subscribers on Tuesday 6th May, Magda showed her dismay at the robbery with a personal plea. She explains, 'We as DJs and artists dedicate our entire energy and spirit to what we do. [Full Story]

Continuing the unique success of his geographically inspired mix compilations, Tiësto looks to explore yet another region by taking us to the Far East this time with In Search of Sunrise 7 – Asia.
In Search Of Sunrise 7 – Asia, which was mixed and recorded in Thailand, captures the peaceful and intensively passionate way of life together with the vigorous activity that Tiësto encountered during his tour through the region this spring. With past stops in Latin America, Los Angeles and last year's Ibiza, Tiësto shows that Asia gave him the inspiration to deliver a brand new, double disc mix compilation, which beautifully expresses what he experienced on his journeys.
On In Search of Sunrise 7 – Asia, Tiësto offers up a seamless trip through the latest and best trance, house and techno with an Asian flair, spread over two full length discs. 'I wanted to mix the concept behind ISOS 7 over two separate sets in such a fashion that the listeners can get a proper impression of what it means to tour Asia', he says. 'Disc one will dwell on the easy going ambience and overwhelming beauty of the continent, whereas the second disc will focus on the incredible energy of the Asian people I felt during the live sets throughout the Asian tour'. 2008 marks a magic moment for Intuition Recordings. After working in joint ventures with other labels for the past 3 years Menno de Jong has recently set up the label as an independent entity, making Intuition a future proof and expansion ready electronic powerhouse.
2004 saw the introduction of a brand new musical entity to the dance scene when Menno de Jong & Paul Moelands founded Intuition Recordings. The label is currently one of the top dogs in the Trance genre. After working with Fundamental Recordings and United Recordings for a total of 3 years, end of 2007 the decision was made to go completely independent.
As of the 1st of April 2008 Intuition headquarters are now located in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The currently three-headed operation has great plans for the future, that start off with 2 brand-new sub-labels to be launched just before the summer: Intuition Deep and Stellar Sounds. Whilst Intuition Recordings itself will maintain its focus on quality trance releases, Intuition Deep will take a trip into progressive and deep trance, whilst keeping the thought behind the global brand: ‘Follow your musical Intuition’.
Stellar Sounds is a whole different story. Space is a big place, and so the musical boundaries of this new sub-label will remain one of the mysteries of the universe. Intuition has introduced a nifty slogan though: ‘Sounds like it came from outer space!’ That combined with an ear for young talent provides the basic ingredients for the musical territory of Stellar Sounds. Laurent Garnier is back making dance-floor beats with his latest release - the fittingly titled Back To My Roots EP - and he's releasing it on one of the most vital quality house labels around, Innervisions.
The story of the A-side, Back To My Roots, is thus: on the evening of Friday 29th February, Garnier was busily rocking Berlin's Panorama Bar to its very foundations. So far, so good, but at 5am the Frenchman still hadn't had enough, so he continued playing for another three hours. It was then that Garnier pulled out a very special track indeed. So special in fact that, before he knew it, Dixon (who had been poised to takeover DJ duties at 5am) wanted to release it on his Innervisions imprint, in a spectacular meeting of the old school and the new electronic underground.
'During that time I played the demo mix of the Back To My Roots track, which I'd made that week (the B side wasn't even made),' Garnier explains, 'Dixon jumped on me to ask what it was. He said that he loved the sound of it and asked me what I wanted to do with it, mentioning that he would really like to release it on Innervisions.' [Full Story]

Dutch DJ/producer Jesse Voorn is rapidly conquering the world with his fresh take on house. As one of the main ambassadors of Dance4Life, he produced the anthem for the SeeMe conference/festival 2008 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The vocals were done by Dutch vocalist and fellow Dance4Life ambassador ZoëXenia. The track was produced as an activation of the partnership between SeeMe and Dance4Life. Both organizations are working together for the first time this year and the first result already is stunning. SeeMe is an energetic house track, with soulful vocals and features the sounds of the caval, a traditional Bulgarian instrument. It already proved to be a true dancefloor burner. rumors, truths, hello
hello friends and fans
some of you may have noticed that i have not checked into myspace at all this year. it has been quite a few troubling months for me and frankly i just didn’t know what to say here, but now i can talk freely and participate in the community and so please accept this blog as my grand hello.
yes, the rumor is true. Gabriel & Dresden and parted ways for the time being. Over the past year, Josh and i have been moving apart as artists and we decided rather than milk it and be moderately happy together that we separate and examine ourselves as individual artists for a while. Our final date was the beatport pool party in miami on march 30th. For those who were there, i want to thank each and every one of you for showing Josh and I the love and support that you did. After the success of his original Elements of Life album, Tiësto returns with a brand new remixed edition.
All eleven tracks of the original album are presented in a remixed version, where the song 'He's A Pirate' is now replaced with the previously unavailable 'No More Heroes', a track Tiësto especially recorded for the performances of the Blue Man Group during some of his Elements of Life World Tour concerts.
The remixes included were made by established artists like Cosmic Gate, Dirty South and Fonzerelli to name but a few and several of these new versions have been played extensively by Tiësto during his Elements of Life World Tour. [Full Story]

Over a year in its creation & representing the first music from Solarstone as a solo artist, ‘Rain Stars Eternal’ is the new ‘year one’ for founder member and driving force, Rich Mowatt.
Through tracks like ‘Solarcoaster’, ‘Speak in Sympathy’, ‘The Calling’ & the Tiësto caned ‘Like a Waterfall’, Rich has delivered 10 straight years of club smashes. His Top 40 hit ‘Seven Cities’ has sound-tracked tens of thousands of Balearic holidays and was rated as the best trance record of the last 10 years by DJ Magazine. Throughout that period Solarstone has torn through the production ranks, becoming infinitely synonymous with trance and succeeded in releasing nothing but the highest quality dance music.
This new album - the follow-up to 2006’s retrospective ‘Anthology One’ - starts to significantly push at the borders of the Trance genre, into Progressive & Chillout and further beyond. [Full Story]

Two gigantic concrete circles stand opposite one another cleft in a mountain of stone blocks. In between, a long, 45-degree steep stairway leads upwards. At the end of the long stairway, the mystery of a beautiful Dutch sky and a beautiful panorama await. More than ever before, this remarkable work of art in the surrealistic landscape of Spaarnwoude symbolises the heart of Dance Valley 2008. On July 12th, at 10 AM, the gates will open for the fourteenth edition, and everyone is welcome to take ‘A Journey Into Sound’. UDC: “We’ve deliberately chosen not to play it safe with a flyer full of well-known names. About half of the artists performing have never turned tables at Dance Valley before, and we have added many new and unknown areas. Nonetheless, artists such as Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate, John Digweed, Judge Jules, Tom Harding, Jean, Danny Howells, etc. mean that there will be enough big names in the line-up.” [Full Story]

As unconventional as the way he wears his hair, as cutting edge as his music and always pushing the boundaries with his productions, the DJ formerly known as Yoji Biomehanika has vanished.
In the wee hours of a mid January 2008 evening, Yoji Biomehanika unsuspectingly went to sleep and woke up the next morning without a last name.
Yoji's management DJlinks.com has made no official comment on the investigation but is working closely with local Japanese and international authorities.
The facts are unclear at the moment as to what happened to his last name, but the online rumour mills are running rampant. Some say it was stolen, others say it was kidnapped, no foul play is suspected at this point, but only 'Yoji' will undeniably know the real truth behind the mysterious disappearance of 'Biomehanika'. But he has vowed to go on with or without it.

The illustrious Rank 1 are nominated in the category ‘Best Trance Artist’ for the first ever Beatport Music Awards. The Beatport Music Awards is set up by the worlds leading download portal for dance music, Beatport.com.
As stated from Beatport’s press announcement:
Denver, CO (March 5th 2008) Beatport.com will honour the best artists and producers in electronic music with a new annual user poll called the Beatport Music Awards. Launching today, the awards poll aims to recognize the producers behind the music, rather than the DJs who play it, by giving music fans, DJs and clubbers the chance to vote for their favourite artists, tracks and remixes.
Based on 2007 unit sales at Beatport.com, the Beatport Music Awards have been split into 19 categories. There are 16 categories broken down by music genre with the top 10 selling artists on Beatport from each genre making up the shortlists that music fans will vote on. Two further categories – Best Remix and Best Single – will also be decided by music fans who will choose from a shortlist of the top 10 sellers of 2007. A final open category asks music fans to name the most influential, forward-thinking and relevant person in electronic music.
“Rather than run another open popularity contest we wanted to create a secure poll that was relevant to the global electronic music community,” said Jonas Tempel, Beatport’s CEO. “Unit sales is a great way to gauge who is popular and we decided to split the awards into separate music genres so that artists that are relevant to their scene still get recognized. Techno fans will have their champion, as will drum & bass, dubstep and trance fans.”
Voting starts march 18 and runs till April 22nd. The Beatport Music Awards has 19 categories altogether. For the full list of nominees click here!

For their first compilation of 2008, Global Underground welcomes to the helm one of electronic music’s most audacious auteurs, Felix Da Housecat; and with the 2 CD mix centred on Felix’s love affair with Europe’s fashion capital, Milan, you know you’re in for something uniquely special – music with both style and substance.
A groundbreaking visionary whose unrelenting contribution to electronic music has spanned the past 20 years, Felix is currently baiting daytime UK airwaves with his latest single, ‘Radio’. Already a ‘Hottest Record In The World’ for Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and a staple in the shows of Pete Tong, Rob Da Bank, and many more, ‘Radio’ is lifted from his recent artist album, ‘Virgo Blaktro & The Movie Disco’, an impressive long-player that has further enhanced his pedigree.
Two-time Grammy-nominated Felix has long maintained a presence beyond the prism of dance music – his collaborations cross the spectrum between P.Diddy and LCD’s James Murphy; critics and bloggers alike have cited him as a worthy heir apparent to the greats of modern black music, recognising that his contributions have followed in the lineage begun by figures such as Sly & The Family Stone, Parliament, and Prince.
Following on from 2001’s ‘Kittenz And Thee Glitz’ (the album that unwittingly spawned electroclash and the worldwide crossover club hit ‘Silver Screen’), and 2004’s ‘Devin Dazzle & The Neon Fever’, ‘Virgo Blaktro…’ tapped into his roots, but equally took him off into new directions, making him as relevant as ever for a 21st century dancefloor.
Inspired by one of the world’s most beautiful cities, ‘Milan’ reaffirms Felix Da Housecat as part of a special breed of DJ. A stunning addition to the finest DJ mix series on the planet, this is over 2 hours worth of music that deserves pride of place on your player.
In a typically Geordie coup, ‘Milan’ has the Shinichi Osawa remix of Felix’s ‘Radio’, other audio highlights include Chip E ‘It's House, Josh Wink ‘Thick As Thieves‘, Thomas Bangalter ‘Outrage’, Armando ‘151’, Dubfire ‘Emissions’, Boys Noize ‘Shine Shine’, Felix Da Housecat Vs. Diddy ‘Jack U (Angelo & Ingrosso Remix), Model 500 ‘No UFOs’, Kris Menace Feat Fred Falke ‘Fairlight’.
Felix da Housecat: GU34 Milan is released 12th May.

‘Above & Beyond Anjunabeats 100’ is the culmination of the first vinyl century of one of the UK’s most successful independent dance labels and the country’s biggest trance label. Three DJs and thousands of meticulous and painstaking A&R man-hours have brought Above & Beyond’s brainchild Anjunabeats to the threshold of this 100th release compilation and bonus DVD.
Over the last eight years Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki have cultivated Anjunabeats from its backroom beginnings to worldwide dance recognition, and its discography has engaged the playlists of pretty much every EDM DJ out there. Central to that success has been the forging of the oft-noted ‘Anjunabeats sound’ (dictionary definition – “Fluffy trance”). This has it has rendered their releases instantly identifiable as ‘an Anjuna track’ to music lovers and diehard clubbers alike.
Here in 2008 Above & Beyond themselves need very little introduction. Two top 20 hits (including one under their OceanLab alias) and a top-selling, critically-acclaimed in most quarters debut album in the form of ‘Tri-State’ have firmly established them (to quote Pete Tong) as “the UK’s new dance superstars”. In addition to that they’ve remixed some of the world’s most influential artists (including Madonna and Dido) and regularly DJ to stadium-sized audiences, most recently performing to an audience of 1 million on Barra Beach in Rio on New Year’s Eve. In that process they have propelled themselves up the DJ rankings, breaking into the world’s Top 10 in 2006 and taking them within touching distance of the coveted No.1 position. [Full Story]

His newest work, released on Artwerk, will be presented to the Dutch crowd on the 26th March at the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
Junkie XL is not a man who likes to sit still. When he isn't working on a new album or gigging abroad, he is working on new movie or game soundtracks. Along with Ferry Corsten, Christopher Lawrence will appear as a headliner at the official South American Music Conference closing party on Saturday March 9th, 2008.
SAMC is located in Buenos Aires, long regarded the South American dance music capital. Since it's inception in 2003, SAMC has become one of the biggest and most prestigious events on the global dance calendar.
The closing party draws in excess of 50,000 dance music fans from throughout South America. The show boasts multiple massive stages, with over 50 international and local artists in a fifteen hour music extravaganza.
Gustavo Sofovich, event organizer and producer commented on his idea and projections for the future: "Having lived in Miami, I saw the model that is the Winter Music Conference. So why not create a South American conference like Miami, so that DJs, promoters, record labels, club owners could come together?"
Attended by fans, musicians, DJs, producers, radio programmers, fashion designers, distributors, music publications, music schools, record labels, event organizers and club owners the Conference gave many the opportunity to network and discuss the local and international industry.
SAMC is Christopher Lawrence's eagerly anticipated follow up to hissellout show at Pacha in Buenos Aires in December 2007.

This is the statement from Marco on his website:
Due to the aggressive and threatening tone of email and messages left for me both online and with my management, the show in which I was to perform as the 1st international DJ to play in Damascus in Syria has been cancelled.
After discussions with the promoter and authorities both in Holland and Syria, it was decided that it was too dangerous for me to go ahead with the gig.
Obviously we get all kinds of comments on the boards, mostly positive, some not so good, but never anything like the death threats we received this week. I am very upset that I won't be able to make it; it would have been a first for me, and a first for Syria. At the end of the day we had to consider what's happened and take what is sensible advice. Hopefully one day the situation in Syria will allow international DJs such as myself to come and play as we do in every other part of the world.
Threats of any kind need to be considered carefully, and taking that into account cancelling was the only option we could take. It was going to be a historic gig for me as well as for Syria, to our knowledge no international DJ has ever played there before.
I'd like to apologize once again for not being able to make this happen, and would like to thank all those involved for their co-operation and understanding.
Marco

Grooverider was sentenced to four years in jail for bringing a little more than two grams of marijuana into Dubai as he arrived at the emirate's airport for a gig in the city Nov. 23. The DJ has two weeks to appeal.
"This is the minimum that you get by law but we will do our best, especially since he confessed and has cooperated with the authorities," defence lawyer Mohammed Suweidi told Reuters.
High-profile music producer Dallas Austin (Michael Jackson, Madonna) got the same sentence but received a pardon in 2006 with the help of one of Grooverider's lawyers, so there is hope for the spinner.

US DJ and producer Christopher Lawrence has moved to Melbourne, Australia.
Christopher says "DJs tend to move abroad a lot. I had been thinking about moving overseas for a while and my wife is Australian, so it was a natural choice. I have traveled the world and Melbourne is a fantastic city. It is very cosmopolitan. Every time I tell a DJ I've moved to Australia, they say it's their favorite country to visit."
The trans Pacific move sees Christopher joining Carl Cox, who also maintains a summer home in Melbourne. The city is also home to producer Dirty South.
But what of the distance? "One thing is for sure" Christopher laughs "I'll be racking up a lot of frequent flyer miles".
Christopher Lawrence will continue his hectic international tour schedule, and will maintain a base in his long time home Los Angeles, where he will begin work on his third artist album this year.
Christopher will officially launch his label Pharmacy with his single "Beyond the Limit" (a collaboration with John 00 Fleming), as well as his new radio show in 2008. Christopher is also scheduled to release a double mix compilation 'Unfold' in Europe on Fektive Records this Spring.

DJs worldwide are invited to shape DJmag's Top 100 Clubs Poll this year by simply voting for their top three clubs on the planet. While our long-running Top 100 DJs Poll offers clubbers the opportunity to vote for their favourite DJs, this is a chance for DJs to speak out and shape a definitive list of the best dance clubs the world has to offer.
Following the success of the past two years Top 50 Clubs, we’re raising the stakes and upping the ante to compile a full list of the Top 100, giving you more scope to big up your favourite world-beating venue.
Famed its forward thinking line-ups and attention to detail, London club Fabric was crowned Best Club In The World in 2006, before the colossal Space in Ibiza lifted the title last year. With more corners of the world opening up to dance music will DJs continue to vote for established venues or will some new clubs from off-the-beaten tracks make an appearance in this year's poll?
And who will claim the crown itself? Will Ibiza’s unstoppable Space clinch the crown? Or will it be London’s perennially perfect Fabric And how about the incredible rainforest vibes and killer soundsystem of Brazil’s Warung, or Berlin’s massive techno emporium, Panaroma Bar?
Whatever kind of DJ you are, be it a Top 100 DJ, someone new and up and coming, or someone who plays the local scene… provided you’re a DJ and have seen more than just your bedroom then your vote is needed.
Voting opens is now open so head over to www.djmag.com and vote for your top three clubs in the world or fire an email to their clubs editor at allan.mcgrath@djmag.com
Voting closes on 20th February and the results will be announced in our April issue, out 26th March.
You can vote HERE.
Update: You can read the results HERE.

It has been clear since his very first release, in 2005 (with 'Let Me Ask You' on Freak n'Chic), that Shonky is an exceptionally talented producer. At 25 years of age and with little more than two years since his first production effort, Shonky releases his debut artist album 'Time Zero' on Dan Ghenacia's Freak n'Chic imprint - get cosmic.
"The style of 'Time Zero' is kind of techno/hypno, with many roots coming from Detroit techno and San Francisco psychedelic house; always super hypnotic.. The album is spacey Shonky world, I used more pads, no vocals and all the tracks have an atmospheric feeling within. They all drive you into a universe which is why I gave them all spacey names.. Ultimately, I did what I do the best, danceable tracks."
The first single to be taken from the album will be 'Time Zero' - with remixes from Paul Ritch and Mathias Kaden, released at the end of March. [Full Story]
